TEXT: For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. (Matthew 7:8)

Today, we shall conclude our series on persistent prayers by referencing biblical characters who demonstrated persistence in prayer.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF PERSISTENT PRAYERS

Jesus Christ: Our Lord and personal Savior demonstrated persistence in prayer. He prayed until He got what He wanted. While in the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed earnestly until the sweat dropping from His body became like drops of blood. He prayed repeatedly for strength to withstand the metaphorical “cup of suffering” that symbolized His imminent death on the cross of Calvary. (Matthew 26:36-46)

The Widow: The fictional widow in Jesus’ parable kept coming to the fictional judge to avenge her of her adversaries. When the judge seemed unresponsive, she persisted until he was compelled to grant her petition. (Luke 18:1-8)

Hannah: Hannah persisted in prayer until God granted her petition. She was tired of the ridicule from everyone, especially her co-wife, Peninnah. Eventually, her prayers were answered after much persistence. (1 Samuel 1:1-28)

Jacob: Jacob demonstrated persistence in prayer when he encountered the angel near the River Jabbok and refused to let the angel go until he received his blessing, resulting in a total turnaround for him.

Elijah: This prophet of God found it easy to lock up the heavens and withhold rain for 3½ years, but when it was time to release it, it became burdensome. He prayed persistently for God to send rain, and after many attempts, he received his answer. (1 Kings 18:46)

Daniel: Daniel prayed, but his prayers were hindered in the second heaven. However, he persisted, and God sent the angel Michael to intervene on his behalf. That might not have been the case if he had relented.

SEARCHLIGHT: No matter the circumstances, never cease to pray (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

PRAYERS: Father Lord, help me renew my strength in the place of prayer.

BIBLE READING: 1 Kings 19-21, 2 Corinthians 9
