THE PURSUIT TO PLEASE GOD

TEXT: 2 Corinthians 5:6–10
KEY VERSE: “Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:9
One of the highest and holiest ambitions a believer can pursue is to please God. In 2 Corinthians 5:9, Paul declares this pursuit as his life’s aim—and it should be ours too. While the world lives to please itself (2 Timothy 3:4), the child of God is called to live each day with a conscious desire to bring delight to the Father.
Our Lord Jesus set the perfect example. He said, “I always do those things that please Him” (John 8:29). To please God is to walk in Christ’s footsteps—not out of fear or obligation, but out of love, gratitude, and surrender.
So, how do we begin living a life that pleases God?
It begins with a changed heart. Jesus said, “Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God” (John 3:5). Without spiritual rebirth, our efforts are powerless to please Him (Romans 8:8).
It continues with a surrendered life. Paul urged believers to “present your bodies a living sacrifice… acceptable to God” (Romans 12:1). This involves laying aside worldly entanglements (2 Timothy 2:4) and yielding every part of ourselves—mind, mouth, and actions—for His purposes (Romans 6:13).
And it is sustained through faithful obedience. God delights in those who follow Him sincerely and consistently (1 Samuel 15:22; Colossians 3:20). Whether in quiet acts of devotion or bold steps of witness, we are called to reflect His truth and grace in all we do (1 Thessalonians 2:4).
Pleasing God is not a vague spiritual ideal—it is a daily lifestyle of surrender, obedience, and devotion. It begins with new birth, grows through consecration, and is revealed in the faithful, Spirit-led steps of a life wholly yielded to Him.
SEARCH LIGHT: Let it be your highest ambition each day to please the Lord. As you walk with Him in humility and faith, your life will carry the sweet fragrance of Christ wherever you go.
PRAYER: Lord, help me to live a life that pleases You. Teach me to obey, to surrender daily, and to walk in Your ways. Amen.
