TEXT: Colossians 1:15-18; James 4:6

KEY VERSE: But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. James 4:6

Evangelism is a vital aspect of our faith, as we are called to share the good news with those who do not yet know Christ. But how can we be truly effective in our witness? By seeking out the secrets of effective evangelism, we can better understand God’s will and become better equipped to reach the lost. Whether through prayer, discernment of God’s will, a focus on Jesus Christ, or allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us, effective evangelism requires a humble heart and a willingness to be led by God.

Prayer is vital for effective evangelism, as Jesus Himself emphasised in Luke 10:2, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.” When we fail to pray before sharing the gospel, we may be relying on our own strength, as James 4:6 reminds us, “Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”” Humble prayer before sharing the gospel positions us to receive God’s grace, guidance, and power. In addition, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 instructs us to “pray without ceasing.” This not only means praying frequently but also continually relying on God’s presence and direction as we share the good news. Prayer is the foundation for effective evangelism, and without it, we may be neglecting a key component of our witness.

Prayer, humility, and submission to God’s will are key elements of effective evangelism. When we pray with sincerity and humility, we position ourselves to receive God’s guidance and strength. Without prayer, we may rely on our own wisdom, which is ineffective. In Part 2, we will explore other crucial elements of effective evangelism, such as a focus on Jesus Christ and allowing the Holy Spirit to work through us.

SEARCH LIGHT: Prayer is essential for effective evangelism, as it positions us to receive God’s guidance and power.

PRAYER: Lord, I humbly seek Your guidance as I share the gospel with others. Empower me to rely on Your strength, not my own.

BIBLE READING:
