THE WAITING PERIOD 1
AUGUST 7, 2025
TEXT: “Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward…” (1 Samuel 16:13)
There is a period that usually precedes most success stories. This period is called The Waiting Period. This period comes with a lot of moulding, training, discipline, and commitment. Your eyes must not be off the glory that awaits you at the end.
Today’s story centres around the life of a very special man called David. David’s anointing was brought about by the disobedience of King Saul, thereby making him to be rejected by Almighty God. Prophet Samuel was directed to anoint David. However, David was to later wait for a long time for the promise to manifest, even though he had been pre-anointed. When it was finally time for him to ascend the throne, Abner, Saul’s army Commander, stood as an obstacle against him by anointing Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, as king over almost 80% of the land, while David only reigned over the household of Judah in Hebron. It was after 7½ years that the whole kingdom of Israel was finally handed over to King David by Abner, and he would go on to reign for a further 33 years in Jerusalem. However, before this accomplishment, there were battles, confusions, and uncertainties.
KEY FACTS
- That you are chosen by God does not make you an automatic success. You will definitely pass through your waiting period, which is your period of reformation, breaking, and remoulding. You must strive for the glory diligently and not bank on things just happening automatically.
- Anointing comes before manifestation. While some are elevated almost immediately after being anointed, many have to go through routes of preparation. David, for instance, went back to the wilderness and accomplished various feats such as killing bears and lions with bare hands, killing the Champion of the Philistines (Goliath), killing 200 Philistines and bringing their foreskins to King Saul, etc. All through this period, David became more grounded in the act of leadership and warfare, which really helped him as a king in the land.
