THE WAITING PERIOD 2
AUGUST 10, 2025
TEXT: Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the spirit of the LORD came upon him from that day forward. (1 Samuel 16:13)
Today, we shall conclude our previous discussion on the topic titled “the waiting period“. The waiting period is meant to build and mould, rather than break us as believers. There are struggles and storms which believers must necessarily pass through in the process of being formed. David, the character under consideration, had numerous experiences which made him grounded as the king of Israel. He learnt humility, perseverance, and forgiveness. He had two opportunities to kill King Saul at Engedi and Ziph, but couldn’t bring himself to do so. By the time he ascended the throne, he had inculcated in himself many leadership attributes, demonstrating to us that the waiting period of believers is not a waste of time, but an opportunity to accumulate much-needed skills.
ADDITIONAL TAKE-HOME FACTS
- Never despise your season of little beginnings. It could be a stepping stone to greater achievements if well utilised. David started as a mere shepherd boy carrying a catapult, running after bears and lions, but later grew into a fearless military man. Even his friend, Hushai, alluded to this fact. (2 Samuel 17:1-2)
- Opposition sometimes pushes you closer to God and makes you a better person. During his waiting period, David faced opposition from Saul, who was hell-bent on killing him, but eventually he was able to prevail.
- Impatience can lead to destiny abortion. If one is not careful enough to bide his time and learn in obscurity, earning public approval and elevation may become quite challenging. This is because there is no tangible manifestation without secret and diligent preparations.

A fruit does not become a fruit in one day. It goes through various stages. So also do we have to go through various stages before the season of manifestation arises.
