THE WAYS OF GOD V THE WAYS OF MAN: TRUSTING IN GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY AND WISDOM

TEXT: And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, He opened her womb: but Rachel was barren. (Genesis 29:31)

Today, we shall conclude the discussion we started on Sunday. We have examined two biblical characters (Moses and Joseph) through whom God demonstrated His sovereignty and unique manner of operation. We shall examine the lives of a few more characters before drawing the curtain on the topic.

Apostle Paul: The great Apostle of God prayed that God would remove something that had become a thorn in his flesh. It seems impossible for God to turn him down, especially considering his fervency and commitment to the gospel. However, in a shocking turn of events, God simply told him that He would empower him with grace to bear the yoke. (2 Corinthians 12:7-10).

The Israelites: When the Israelites were eventually released by Pharaoh, they found themselves trapped between the Red Sea and the Egyptians. No one could have anticipated or predicted the manner in which God rescued the Israelites by drying up the Red Sea, thereby proving that God’s ways are distinct from ours.

✅ Gideon: When Gideon was preparing for battle against the Midianites, one would have expected God to direct him to raise battalions of soldiers. However, God told Gideon that the 300 men who passed the water test were enough to conquer Midian, a great city in those days. Incredible, isn’t it? But the Israelites prevailed despite the numerical disadvantage. (Judges 7 & 8).

In summary, the above examples, among many others, clearly epitomize the unique ways of God. God cannot be questioned; He does things in His own way. What matters to Him most is the result, and how He achieves it does not bother Him. God may purposely permit certain things to happen in a believer’s life, leaving those around them wondering why God cannot intervene. However, God may have allowed those things to happen for His glory to be manifested.

SEARCHLIGHT: Never become too familiar with the “ways” of God, as you may be in for massive shockers occasionally.

PRAYERS: O Lord, may I never become overly familiar with You, in the name of Jesus Christ.
