TEXT: 2 Kings 4:2And Elisha said unto her, “What shall I do for thee? Tell me, what hast thou in the house?” And she said, “Thine handmaid hath not anything in the house, save a pot of oil.”

In the above passage, Prophet Elisha asked the poor widow a profound question that we also need to ask ourselves. The woman had come to express how difficult life was for her after her husband’s demise and how she was heavily indebted to numerous creditors. Instead of instantly declaring God’s blessings, the prophet asked what she had on hand to warrant God’s blessing.

The above illustrates that God does not deal with emptiness. You cannot come before God totally empty. There must be something you are trusting God to increase and improve for you. You cannot establish something on nothing and expect it to stand; it is impossible.

It is crucial to recognize that the quantity or volume of what you have does not matter to God. When Elisha asked the widow the profound question, she replied, “Your servant has nothing except a little pot of oil.” God can utilize our “little” resources to perform great and mighty wonders in our lives. All He requires from us is seriousness.

You have been trusting God for good employment; what do you have? Do you have any particular feature or value that God can work with? Are you even employable? Have you built the necessary capacity? Prayers without substance are ineffective!

You are facing financial difficulties; what do you have? There must be something (e.g., a little business idea/plan) that God can work with. Are you not just staying at home, watching movies, and expecting God to bless you financially without taking any reasonable and legal step toward financial freedom?

You are trusting God for marital breakthrough; what do you have? What value have you added to yourself that will make God bestow marital breakthrough upon you? Beloved, you cannot afford to be shallow and perpetually empty. God needs to see certain things in our lives that signify readiness on our part. As earlier said, it need not be something huge or big.

The third servant in Matthew 25 never knew that quantity did not matter and that what mattered was the ability to properly utilize the little you have in your hands.

Tomorrow, we shall examine examples of biblical characters who possessed certain virtues that God capitalized on to push their lives forward positively.

SEARCHLIGHT: God requires our active participation and faith before He fulfills His part. Our “little” oil today can become the source of overflowing financial breakthrough.

PRAYER: O LORD, grant unto me the help that my life and destiny need now, in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE READING: Jeremiah 39-41, Matthew 10
