WHEN GOD CALLS THE UNCERTAIN
MARCH 23,2026
TEXT: Exodus 4
KEY VERSE: “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.” — Exodus 4:12
There are moments when God calls a man into an assignment that feels bigger than his capacity. That is exactly where this chapter begins. Moses had already encountered God, yet he was still struggling within himself. He questioned, hesitated, and brought up his limitations—what if they don’t believe me? what if I cannot speak well? Beneath all these questions was a deeper issue: a lack of confidence in himself and, to some extent, in what God could do through him. This shows that divine calling does not always remove human weakness instantly.
In response, God did not discard Moses because of his doubts. Instead, He gave him signs and assurances. The rod that turned into a serpent, the leprous hand that was restored—these were not just miracles; they were confirmations that God’s power would back His word. God was teaching Moses that the success of the assignment would not depend on his ability, but on divine enablement. When God sends a man, He provides what is needed to accomplish the task.
Yet even after these assurances, Moses still resisted. He shifted from uncertainty to reluctance, asking God to send someone else. At this point, God’s displeasure is revealed, but so is His mercy. He appointed Aaron to support Moses. This balance is important—while God is patient with our process, He also expects us to eventually respond in obedience. Delay rooted in fear or insecurity can hinder what God wants to accomplish through us.
Another striking moment in this chapter is the encounter on the way, where something serious almost cost Moses his life. It reveals that obedience is not partial. A man cannot carry God’s assignment and neglect God’s requirements. The issue of covenant had to be settled before Moses could move forward. This teaches that God is not only interested in what we do for Him, but also in our alignment with Him.
By the end of the chapter, Moses steps into obedience. When he finally spoke to the people and demonstrated the signs, they believed. What he feared at the beginning became a testimony at the end. This shows that many of the fears we carry are resolved only when we step forward in obedience.
SEARCHLIGHT : God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the one who stops resisting and starts obeying.
PRAYER : Lord, help me to move beyond my fears and excuses when You call me. Teach me to trust in Your ability rather than my limitations. Align my life with Your will, and give me the courage to obey completely. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
