TEXT: Acts 5:1–42

KEY VERSE: “And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. (Acts 5:11)

The early Church lived in an atmosphere of unusual grace and power. God’s presence was evident through miracles, healings, and the bold proclamation of Jesus Christ. Yet Acts 5 clearly shows that the presence of God is not casual. Revival is not measured by activity or outward success, but by God truly dwelling among His people. Wherever God walks, His holiness exposes what is hidden and demands sincerity of heart.

The account of Ananias and Sapphira reveals the danger of hypocrisy in God’s presence. They appeared devoted outwardly but were dishonest inwardly. Their judgment reminds the Church that God is not impressed by appearances; He desires truth in the inner man. Serving God without full surrender may look impressive before people, but it carries serious consequences before Him.

When this happened, a holy fear came upon the Church. This fear was not meant to drive believers away, but to restore reverence and order. The fear of God protects revival, keeps the Church pure, and sustains God’s power. As reverence increased, signs and wonders multiplied, and many were added to the Lord, showing that holiness and power always work together.

Opposition soon followed as religious leaders arrested the apostles. However, God intervened, released them, and commanded them to continue preaching. The apostles boldly chose obedience to God over human approval. Even after suffering, they rejoiced and continued daily in the work of the gospel. Acts 5 teaches us that when God walks among His people, He defends His work, empowers His servants, and advances His purpose through obedient hearts.

SEARCHLIGHT: Revival thrives where God’s presence is honoured with truth, reverence, and obedience.

PRAYER: Lord, purify our hearts and help us walk in truth and reverence before You. Let Your presence dwell among us and empower us to obey You fully. Amen.
