WHEN HEAVEN APPEARS SILENT
NOVEMBER 11, 2024
TEXT: And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. (1 Samuel 28:6)
There are often certain stages in life when God seems perpetually distant, silent, or unresponsive. At such times, we tend to pray and not receive any specific answers from heaven. In our text, a full reading of the entire passage reveals the case of King Saul, who, having fallen short of the glory of God several times, could no longer connect to the antenna of heaven. He was no longer getting any response, either through prophets, dreams, or visions. Perhaps due to frustration, he resorted to the woman with a familiar spirit at Endor. Note that this same Saul had previously banished all sorcerers, witches, and wizards from the land of Israel; so, he was effectively going back to his vomit.
When we reach a particular juncture in our life where heaven seems to be silent over some seemingly delicate issues, our response in this period actually goes a long way. Do we resort to other worldly or ungodly alternatives? Do we totally forsake and neglect God?
REASONS FOR GOD’S OCCASIONAL SILENCE
✅ God may be silent in a bid to test our faith and resolve, with the ultimate aim of refining us at the end of it all. (Psalm 66:10-12)
✅ God may be silent in a bid to teach us certain lessons on faith. Faith requires constantly trusting God, even in the absence of visible and tangible signs. (2 Corinthians 5:7)
✅ God may be silent in order to teach us how to persevere and endure certain trials. (James 1:2-4)
✅ Sometimes, God may also be silent as a tool or means of disciplining a believer for one or two wayward or sinful acts. (Hebrews 12:5-11)

SEARCHLIGHT: The silence of heaven is a phase that most Christians usually go through at different phases of life. It is not something new; we must put every effort into ensuring we handle the situation with the required spiritual maturity that we can gather and pray to God for strength to scale through the difficult phase.
PRAYERS: O heavens, do not be silent over my case. Attend to my case with urgency, in Jesus’ mighty name.
BIBLE READING: Joel 2, 3, Amos 1, Mark 11.
