WHEN HEAVEN SEEMS SILENT II

WHEN HEAVEN SEEMS SILENT II

NOVEMBER 12, 2024

TEXT: And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.(1 SAMUEL 28:6)

Yesterday, we discussed how and why heaven can seem silent or unresponsive to our petitions on different occasions. Today, we shall continue from where we stopped by examining the lessons from Saul’s experience, with him being the principal actor in our text. We shall also discuss potential steps to take whenever God seems quiet and finally round up by examining a few Bible characters who found it difficult to receive any signal from heaven at different times in their lives.

LESSONS FROM SAUL’S EXPERIENCE

✅ Disobedience is a very dangerous thing. The Prophet Samuel, in his encounter with King Saul, likened disobedience to the sin of idolatry and witchcraft to show its severity. This disobedience ultimately led to Saul falling out of favor with God and disconnecting him from God’s heavenly “network”. (1 Samuel 15:10-11)

✅ Another lesson we can learn from King Saul’s experience is that fear can result in one taking strange and ill-advised decisions that might later backfire. He consulted the woman with a familiar spirit out of fear of the Philistines overcoming his troops, even though he himself was responsible for the total shutdown from heaven.

STEPS THAT MAY BE TAKEN IN TIMES OF GOD BEING SEEMINGLY SILENT

✅ Evaluate your stance and relationship with God. It could be that you are responsible for the silence on God’s part, just like in King Saul’s case.

✅ Seek guidance from experienced fellow believers or friends who are knowledgeable about such things and who have perhaps passed through a similar phase.

✅ Assure yourself of God’s sovereignty. Tell yourself that even when God is silent, He remains God regardless of that particular phase you find yourself in.

✅ Never relent from continually seeking His face until you receive a specific answer from Him.

SEARCHLIGHT: It is definitely not out of place to feel overwhelmed when you petition God over any aspect of your life and He seems not to be saying anything. Use this period to build up your faith, patience, and endurance.

PRAYERS: O LORD, in my pursuit of You, may I not take the wrong decision.
