WITNESSING FOR CHRIST VIA OUR DAY-TO-DAY CONVERSATIONS

OCTOBER 19, 2024

TEXT: Colossians 4:5-6

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

As believers that we are, it is mandated on us to preach the gospel of Christ. It is a well-established fact that preaching the gospel can be actualized via various means. One of the means of spreading the gospel is by taking advantage of everyday communications and conversations as ample opportunities to tell someone about the Love of Christ for mankind. While arguing about football, Music, Science, Literature, Arts and Governance, there is a way we can chip in with talks of Jesus Christ. In essence, day-to-day Interactions should not be all about arguments and debates alone. As believers, we have a duty to ensure that in all our discussions, Jesus is glorified either directly or indirectly. In our text, the Apostle Paul admonished us to grab every opportunity to push forward Godly contents. He also proceeded to admonish us to ensure that conversation is full of grace, seasoned with salt and meaningful content. That is the distinguishing mark of a believer that separates us from people of the world. To achieve this, we must understand the nature of the person we are conversing with, know his interest and what intrigues him, then use it judiciously to draw his interest, as stated in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23. This can be achieved by actively listening to the person. We should tactfully connect the discussion to the scriptures. If possible, utilize biblical instances to tackle the discussion on ground. Simplify the gospel for such individual. Start with the basics and elementary. Don’t just jump into difficult doctrines and principles. Start from the “Milk” level.Emphasize on the fact that God loves them, regardless of their past, as stated in John 3:16. If possible, try to exchange contact information for possible follow up.Christ has mandated us to go into the world and preach the gospel. Going about with tracts and megaphones is one of the conventional ways of obeying this divine injunction. However, we shouldn’t jettison other seemingly small but equally powerful means at our disposal to preach Christ to the people of the world.

SEARCHLIGHT: Everyday interactions and conversations can become fertile avenues for soul winning if we are conscious of such opportunities.

PRAYER: Father, help me to proclaim your name in all my daily activities, in Jesus Mighty name.

BIBLE READING: Ezekiel 16-18, Matthew 20
