WITNESSING WITHOUT SHAME
SEPTEMBER 26, 2025
TEXT: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16)
Today’s discussion shall border on the need for bold and courageous evangelism. All believers are expected to spread the good news wherever they can and at every given opportunity. The gospel is a transformational adventure that has the power to break the shackles of sin, self-guilt, addiction to demonic and evil habits, condemnation, among many other yokes. However, some people struggle sometimes in carrying out this divine mandate due to shame, shyness, and timidity. This fear and anxiety may often be caused by certain factors such as the ones listed below:
- Persecution/Oppression: Many people, especially those who find themselves within cities that can best be described as “enemy territory” may not have the courage and boldness to propagate the gospel for fear of being killed or molested.
- Fear of rejection/mockery: Some people are bothered about being labelled as fanatics and by virtue of that, they grudgingly stay aloof from the gospel.
- Societal pressure: In society today, people tend to commit sin with reckless abandon. The things of righteousness are made to look archaic, ridiculous, and uncivilised, while the things of the world are portrayed in a good light and seem to even be more generally accepted as societal norms. Due to this, many believers feel out of place among the people in society, thereby robbing them of necessary boldness for evangelistic assignments.
As believers, if we are being inhibited by any of the above factors, it’s high time we cried unto God for courage and boldness. This is because preaching the gospel is not something a believer can opt out of. It is mandatory, being a divine obligation for us. Our father of faith, Apostle Paul proclaimed Jesus Christ unashamedly everywhere he found himself, as he knew the divine value as well as the reward that comes with it. We need not hide our faith. Jesus is not a subject of shame to us. He should be proclaimed unashamedly among the people around us.
SEARCHLIGHT: Bold evangelism is not arrogance. It is the boldness that stirs the love of the unsaved and brings them to experience Christ’s saving grace.
PRAYER:
O Lord, arise and equip me with courage to preach your word, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
