RIGHTEOUSNESS IN A CORRUPT AGE
MARCH 19, 2026
TEXT: GENESIS 6
KEY VERSE: “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.” — Genesis 6:8
This chapter presents a serious picture of the condition of humanity before the flood. As people multiplied on the earth, their moral condition deteriorated. Violence, corruption, and wickedness became widespread. The passage explains that the thoughts and intentions of the human heart were continually inclined toward evil. This reveals an important truth: when people turn away from God, the decline does not remain small or hidden; it gradually spreads through society and affects every area of life.
The chapter also reveals how deeply sin grieves God. The text describes the Lord as being sorrowful over the corruption that filled the earth. This does not suggest weakness in God but shows the seriousness with which He views human rebellion. God created humanity for fellowship and righteousness, yet people had chosen a path that completely ignored His ways. When sin becomes normalized and unchecked, judgment eventually follows because God is both patient and just.
In the middle of this dark picture, one life stands out — Noah. While the world around him was corrupt, Noah walked with God. This shows that even when society moves in the wrong direction, it is still possible for an individual to live faithfully before the Lord. Noah did not follow the pattern of the world around him. Instead, his life attracted the grace of God. Grace in this context refers to God’s favor resting upon a person who chooses to live in obedience and reverence.
God then instructed Noah to build an ark as preparation for the coming flood. The ark was both a means of salvation and a testimony of Noah’s faith. Building it required trust, patience, and obedience over a long period of time. Noah followed God’s instructions carefully, even though the world around him likely misunderstood or mocked his actions. His obedience shows that faith often requires persistence, especially when others do not understand the path God has given.
For believers today, Genesis 6 carries a strong message. The moral condition of the world may change, but God still looks for people who walk with Him. Righteousness is not determined by the majority but by obedience to God’s will. When a believer remains faithful in a corrupt environment, that life becomes a testimony of God’s grace and a vessel through which His purposes can be accomplished.
SEARCHLIGHT :Even when the world grows darker, one life that walks with God can still find His grace.
PRAYER : Lord, help me to remain faithful to You even when the world around me moves in the wrong direction. Guard my heart from the influence of sin and teach me to walk closely with You every day. Let my life reflect Your grace and righteousness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
