RIGHTEOUSNESS AS A TOOL FOR EFFECTIVE PRAYERS 1

TEXT: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” — James 5:16
Prayer is a tool through which we can express our intentions to God. Prayer is not just about words and utterances alone; it is a spiritual transaction.
According to Apostle James, righteousness is a key spiritual ingredient that facilitates answers to prayers. Righteousness here does not refer to perfection or complete blamelessness. It refers to a believer living in obedience and in accordance with the will of God. Being on the right track with God facilitates speedy answers to prayers. There is a way in which sin quenches one’s prayers. According to the Psalmist, God will not answer anyone who harbours iniquity in his heart (Psalm 66:18). Sin completely blocks spiritual sensitivity. The LORD makes Himself completely far from the wicked (Proverbs 15:29).
Apostle James used Prophet Elijah as an example of effective prayer. He walked closely with God and lived a life of total obedience and dependence on God.
Many wonder why they pray and do not receive answers, forgetting that prayer offered in iniquity is an abomination unto God. Yes, there is a place for grace, but grace is not a licence to remain in perpetual sin while expecting answers to come to your prayers all the time.
SEARCHLIGHT: Let your life reflect the life of God. You cannot receive from God when you are not connected to the socket of righteousness and holiness.
PRAYER: O LORD, help me to live a worthy life before You, in Jesus’ Mighty Name.
