THE DANGER OF MINIMAL COMPROMISE (1)
APRIL 24, 2026
TEXT: But exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3:13)
As believers, one thing we must be constantly conscious of is the fact that sin has a deceptive nature. One might keep drowning in the pool of sin, acting under the impression that one is enjoying oneself. Sin hardly presents itself as dangerous.
It comes in a manner that is attractive, harmless, and captivating. Sin promises pleasure but withholds the repercussions from the perpetrator. It gradually weakens the heart while making it seem as if you are being overly spiritual.
Most times, sin begins with innocent and unsuspected desires, but gradually metamorphoses into a monster that becomes difficult to control (James 1:14–15, Jeremiah 17:9).
In fact, if care is not taken, one might begin to see what is seemingly wrong as being right and pure.
HOW SIN DECEIVES PEOPLE
- Sin can wittingly twist and manipulate the truth. This can be done through the distortion of God’s original words and intents. The serpent, when it came to the woman in the garden, already knew what God said concerning eating the forbidden fruit; yet, he still went ahead to say, “Has God said…?” (Genesis 3:1–5). The serpent deceived the woman into thinking that she would become wiser by eating from the fruit in the midst of the garden, whereas the truth was otherwise. When the truth is twisted, it becomes easier to accept sin.
- Sin minimizes the severity of various ungodly acts. People begin to classify sins into upper, intermediate, and lower levels. Unfortunately, the small sins of today gradually become monstrous elements tomorrow. Sin magnifies in size.
SEARCHLIGHT: Sin advertises a lot of pleasure but cannot satisfy anyone.
PRAYERS: O LORD, set me free from the clutches of sin, in the mighty name of Jesus.
