GO AND WASH! (OBEDIENCE BEFORE UNDERSTANDING 2)
APRIL 21, 2026
TEXT: And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. (John 9:7)
Yesterday, we started a topic as regards the importance of full and total obedience, even in the absence of clarity.
Indeed, our discussion also emphasized the fact that God’s instructions often come nebulously and vaguely, but as believers, we must surge on without trying to seek clarification. The mystery of life is that the more you try to conceptualize God, the more you become confused.
Today, we shall look into important facts to further buttress this teaching.
KEY FACTS ABOUT SIMPLE OBEDIENCE
- God’s methods don’t have to make sense, at least to you. It just requires you to take a step, and that’s it. For example, in the case of Naaman, why should Naaman have to go and wash in a dirty river for him to be healed, you ask? Couldn’t Prophet Elisha have merely placed his hand on the leprous spot and healed same, you ask? However, the way of God is unique and quite distinct from man’s. Man proposes, God disposes. Secondly, you may ask, “what has marching around the city got to do with bringing down the walls of Jericho?” All these were simply to entrench God’s sovereignty and mysterious nature.
- Jesus’ later conversations with the man showed that he did not even know Jesus at all. Jesus asked if he believed in the Son of Man, and he replied, saying: “Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?” In essence, he did not know who was instructing him, yet he obeyed. How many times have you lost out on your breakthroughs just because the “angel” assigned to lift you up did not come in the elaborate manner you expected?
- Obedience can open doors to events and revelations that will usher you into deeper revelations. The man was blind. He got his sight, and when he was banished from the synagogue, he met Christ again, and it was clear that he didn’t know the status of Christ. After his healing, Christ gave him deeper knowledge of Himself and His ministry.
SEARCHLIGHT: God’s is to command; ours is to obey and comply.
God is after trust and obedience, not prior knowledge and obedience.
PRAYER: O GOD, give me a heart that will obey You in all aspects, in Jesus’ Mighty name.
