FILTERING DOCTRINAL ANOMALIES I

TOPIC:

TEXT: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils; (1 Timothy 4:1)

This teaching is quite timely, especially in view of the peculiarities of our current world, where many have become teachers of heresies and abominations, all in a bid to propel themselves to a stage of enjoying a high level of acceptance among the church members of today.

From our text above, a thorough reading of the full passage reveals that the Bible had even anticipated these things. Apostle Paul, while writing to his beloved spiritual son, Timothy, was encouraging him not to be one of those who would be lured by demonic doctrines and teachings.

Every day, we find a lot of spiritual compromise taking place in the fold. We find that many have abandoned the first love that once burnt fiercely on their altars. Many are now comfortable with sin, calling it “wisdom” or “cleverness.” This prompts the same question that Jesus asked in Luke 18:8 as to where He would find faith on earth when He returns.

The Christianity of today has portrayed the devil as an angel of light and holiness. If care is not taken, even we, the elect, may have our salvation jeopardized (Matthew 24:24). Deception is such a very potent tool in the arsenal of the enemy, if not the most powerful, as all other tools like lust, immorality, stealing, envy, etc., all have their roots deeply entrenched in deception.

KEY INSTANCES OF NEGATIVE INDOCTRINATION IN THE CHURCH

  1. Teachers who teach brilliantly and eloquently but are spiritually compromised. Because of their eloquence, you are persuaded to reason along with their line of thought, even though it is the opposite of godliness (2 Peter 2:1).
  2. Teachers who feel the need to start correcting the Scriptures. I once heard a preacher online trying to correct Apostle Paul’s teaching. He claimed that the teaching was defective. Truly, Paul is not Christ. However, despite Paul being human, he was authentically anointed by God to spread the Word and inculcate in believers the true and godly lifestyle. Thus, it is the beginning of arrogance when one starts to modify the Scriptures, especially using carnal knowledge and wisdom.
  3. Teachers whose lifestyle outside the church contradicts what they teach within the church. They have forgotten that people watch them more than they listen to them.

SEARCHLIGHT: Guard your heart and ears in these end times, as many false doctrines have pervaded the environment.

PRAYER: O LORD, HELP ME TO GROW MORE IN YOU, IN JESUS’ MIGHTY NAME.
