NO FAILURE IN THE MIDST OF DIVINE DIRECTION 2

TEXT: 1 Kings 22
KEY VERSE: “And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.” (1 Kings 22:5)
Today, we shall discuss the second leg of this topic, having discussed the first leg three days ago. In the first part, we emphasized the need to have a special connection with God with a view to obtaining divine directions on the steps that must be taken by us, while also not downplaying the importance of group and peer-based counselling, but merely emphasizing the need to put God’s directives first.
One of the numerous examples in the Bible that attest to the importance of seeking God’s direction can be found in the affairs of Joshua and the Gibeonites. The Gibeonites observed that Israel had conquered Jericho and Ai, which were two principal cities that Israel sought to dislodge. The Gibeonites came with worn-out dresses, faded bottles, mouldy and stale bread, and told Joshua and his team that they were from a distant city. They wanted a league with the Israelites so that their lives would be spared. They made it look as though they were from a far location and posed no threat to the Israelites’ attempted conquest of the lands. Unfortunately, Joshua went ahead to sign an agreement with them without consulting God. He later discovered that the Gibeonites were closer than he thought. However, they could not kill them any longer, as they had already signed an agreement with them. Thus, they turned them into slaves, woodcutters, and water fetchers. This could have been avoided had divine direction been sought (Joshua 9:14). No matter how smart you are, there are some issues on which clarity must be obtained from God before any step can be taken.
God Himself assured us that He would be with us in all we do (Psalm 37:23). Thus, in major aspects of our lives, such as marriage, business, relocation, ministry, employment, financial commitments and investments, etc., do not allow circumstances to make the decision for you. That things are seemingly working out does not mean it is the will of God. We must also understand that not every spiritual voice is the voice of God. Many seemingly spiritual voices are deceptive. Therefore, we must test every spirit to ascertain its authenticity.
SEARCHLIGHT: In the midst of counsellors, there is safety. However, don’t prioritize man at the expense of God.
PRAYER: O LORD, give me the divine directions that my life needs, in Jesus’ Mighty Name.
