THE GOSPEL IN A WORLD OF MANY VOICES 1

TEXT: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)
We live in a world where many voices compete with the Word of God for equal attention. The massive advancement in technology has made it even messier. Through internet access, many people are exposed to millions of ideas online. Everyone online seems to have a page where they talk about success, financial growth, marriage, purpose discovery, career paths, etc. However, as believers, we still have no choice but to stick to what we know and strive to propagate it even more. It is not our duty to invent gratifying messages that will appease rather than convict.
Right from the days of the Garden of Eden, Satan has always been trying everything humanly possible to raise voices that challenge the Word of God. When the serpent came, the first question it asked was, “Has God said…” (Genesis 3:1).
Today, some of those voices may take any of the following forms:
- Human philosophy: Some people try to scientifically demystify or rationalize the Word of God. (Colossians 2:8).
- False teachers: A lot of strange and foreign elements now dominate the so-called gospel that many now preach. (2 Peter 2:1).
- The desires of the flesh and the pride of life. (1 John 2:15–17).
Paul stated in one of his epistles that a time would come when people would not be able to endure sound doctrine. Rather, they would listen to teachers who gratify them and tell them what they wish to hear. This is truly happening today, and it is a pointer that we must be careful about who and what we listen to. Not every trending voice on the radio and social media is actually from God. (2 Timothy 4:3–4). As believers, we must learn spiritual discernment. We are not expected to believe every teaching that comes our way. Rather, we are expected to test every spirit in order to know which one comes from God. (1 John 4:1). This was exactly what the Berean believers did whenever Paul preached to them. (Acts 17:11).
Also, as believers, we must ensure that our messenger matches the message we preach. That means we must ensure that there is no difference between the life we portray and the life we preach. This is very essential, especially in a world that is quick to find fault. The Bible already describes us as the light of the world, and our lives must not deviate from this. (Matthew 5:14–16).
SEARCHLIGHT: Whose words are people hearing through you? Let your life and voice point people to Christ.
PRAYER: O LORD, let me be successful in my quest to ensure that Your Word towers above every other voice in society, in Jesus’ mighty name.
