THE GOSPEL: THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION

TEXT: For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. (ROMANS 1:16)
Evangelism is not merely a church message, a religious philosophy, or an invitation to become a member of a denomination. It is God’s message concerning sin, liberty, salvation, and the coming, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul declared that he was not ashamed of the gospel because it possessed a power that cannot be offered by human wisdom, wealth, education, political power, or philosophy. The gospel is the power of God with the ultimate aim of salvation.
The primary spiritual problem of humanity is sin (Romans 3:23). Sin has really wreaked havoc on humanity’s relationship with God (Isaiah 59:2). Sin also has a consequence, which is death. Sin without repentance is a stroll in the valley of death and damnation (Ezekiel 18:4; Romans 6:23).
Thankfully, God has not left us without a remedy. He has chosen to send us His only begotten Son to serve as a ransom for our sins. He demonstrated this great love for us while we were yet sinners in order to bring us to a life of reconciliation with the Father (Romans 5:8; John 3:16). Thus, the gospel is the announcement that God has made salvation available through Jesus Christ.
According to Apostle Paul in our text, the gospel is not merely a source of power but the power of God unto salvation. The gospel has divine authority behind it. Human beings can change physical circumstances, but only God can ultimately deal with sin. Money can buy a house but cannot purchase salvation. Education can liberate the mind but cannot liberate a life caged by sin. However, the gospel reveals God’s plan for salvation through Christ.
SEARCHLIGHT: The gospel is loaded with power to enable us to navigate successfully towards the path of salvation.
PRAYER: O LORD, empower me with wisdom, willingness, and readiness to preach the gospel, in Jesus’ Mighty Name.
