BREAKING FREE FROM ANCESTRAL CURSES

BREAKING FREE FROM ANCESTRAL CURSES

February 17, 2025

TEXT: “In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.” But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge (Jeremiah 31:29-30)

Across many generations, there is a belief that vengeance for the sins of parents and ancestors often works against succeeding generations. Sometimes, people tend to misbehave in such a way that is so intolerable to the affected party, thereby leading to him angrily placing a curse not only on the offender but also on his children and grandchildren for many generations. No wonder there is a repeated pattern of failure, stagnancy, and affliction in most families. Many of these victims are totally ignorant and innocent of what they are suffering for, and unfortunately, if care is not taken, they will continue to suffer for generations for offenses not committed by them. (Exodus 20:5).

Our text for today’s topic makes us realize that, by default, once a father eats sour grapes, the children’s teeth will be set on edge. In essence, once a person commits any atrocity, the children are ordinarily expected to reap the negative effects. However, God has given us hope by assuring us through His servant, Jeremiah, that the proverb will no longer be in use, as everyone will have to bear the burden of his personal sins.

HOW CAN WE BE FREE FROM OUR ANCESTRAL CURSES?

  1. We must carefully examine and identify any possible ancestral defects in our respective families.
  2. Pray vehemently against ancestral curses.
  3. Study the scriptures so you can equip yourself with knowledge about ancestral curses.

SEARCHLIGHT: Don’t be deceived! Family curses are real, even though they can be broken with prayers and determination. God has given us the authority to break free from family curses and walk in the freedom and newness of life.
