NIX YOUR UNFOUNDED FEARS

NIX YOUR UNFOUNDED FEARS

JUNE 28, 2025

TEXT: “That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that sheweth me that my son hath made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or sheweth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?” 1 Samuel 22:8

The complex and intricate nature of human beings is revealed through the very thoughts that we harbor within ourselves. Our fears and thoughts hold the power to shape our actions and behaviors, making it paramount that we remain conscious of the beliefs we choose to adopt regarding our identity. For actions are the true testament of our inner world, speaking volumes about the hidden truths that lie within us, revealed through our outward conduct.

Examining our text, 1 Samuel 22:8, we find King Saul building a case based on suspicions and assumptions, mistakenly thinking his son Jonathan and his servants were plotting to overthrow him. In his distrust, Saul accused his servants of disloyalty for supposedly hiding this alleged alliance between Jonathan and David. However, this alliance was nothing but a figment of Saul’s imagination, thus making it impossible for the servants to produce evidence for something that simply did not exist. The vice grip of insecurity had taken hold of Saul, clouding his judgment and twisting his sense of reality. Fear had seized him, a product of his own doing, rendering him a prisoner to the very demons of his mind. His reasoning had become tainted, marred by the vicious cycle of paranoia and distrust.

When you look at Saul’s actions, you know his heart was way out of tune with God’s word. Even if Ahimelech had done something wrong, it would have been illegal to punish the entire family (Deuteronomy 24:16). But Saul didn’t care. In a vicious, savage move, he wiped out 85 priests, every man, woman, and child of Nob, and all their farm animals, too! And for what? Because of some dumb fear that was never even based on reality.

To truly live a life that honors God, we must allow Him to guide our path and not make decisions based on our own selfish ambitions and unfounded fears. It’s essential that we reflect inwardly and purge our lives of any fears that could lead us to act in sinful ways, such as evil speaking, envy, and jealousy, which grieve the Holy Spirit. When we embrace God’s perfect love, we are freed from the bondage of fear and walk with the boldness and courage that come from knowing we are loved unconditionally.

SEARCHLIGHT: Fear cripples, but faith empowers.

PRAYER: Almighty God, we humbly ask for Your grace in banishing all fears that weaken our spirits and burden our hearts. May we find refuge in Your unshakable love and courage in Your faithfulness, that we may withstand the storms of life and emerge victorious in Your name. Amen.
