FREEDOM FROM ANXIETY
SEPTEMBER 2, 2025
TEXT: Matthew 6:25–34
KEY VERSE: “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?” Matthew 6:25
Today’s topic borders on the need to maintain our peace and avoid becoming anxious over the peculiar issues of life. Life is a race, and the needs of man to enjoy a good life are unlimited. Because of this, it is almost natural for man to worry constantly and be anxious about the challenges of life.
However, in our text, Jesus Christ encouraged believers not to worry about tomorrow. This does not mean we should be thoughtless or careless in our approach to daily living. Rather, it reinforces our belief in God’s ability to provide for our needs at every given time. The book of 1 Peter 5:7 urges us to cast all our burdens on Him, for He is ever concerned about our situations. Likewise, Philippians 4:6–7 encourages us to be anxious for nothing, knowing that everything we need is well within God’s ability.
REASONS WHY WE SHOULD NOT BE ANXIOUS
- Worry achieves nothing. When we worry too much, it does not bring a solution to the problem. Instead, it worsens the situation and may even cause health complications.
- If God can provide for the birds of the air and clothe the lilies of the field, how much more will He provide for His own children?
- God already knows the things we are longing for, even before we ask. All we need to do is ask in faith, believing that they are already settled. God cares for us far more than we can imagine.
SEARCHLIGHT: Do not be consumed by anxiety about tomorrow. Anxiety is a thief of joy and peace.
BIBLE READING: Isaiah 52–54; Matthew 21.
PRAYER: O Lord, meet me at every point of my need, in the mighty name of Jesus.
