SPIRITUAL DILIGENCE

SPIRITUAL DILIGENCE

JUNE 8, 2026

TEXT: “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily to determine whether those things were so.” (Acts 17:11)

Today’s teaching borders on the appropriate mode and style of receiving the Word of God. Apostle Paul, during his second missionary journey to places like Ephesus, Galatia, Phrygia, Philippi, Athens, etc., identified the lifestyle of a peculiar group of people called the Bereans. This set of people was reported to have received the Word of God from Apostle Paul and then proceeded home to further examine his words in a bid to ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of Paul’s teachings.

The above virtue demonstrated the meekness and teachability of the Berean Christians. They were quite teachable and pliable.

The Bible admonishes us to receive with meekness the implanted Word of God (James 1:21). One cannot grow spiritually if the Word of God is not approached in the appropriate manner.

The people studied the Bible daily. They didn’t do it only when they wished. They didn’t do it only when they were less busy. They made it a habit. Spiritual strength can only be obtained through consistent exposure to the Word of God.

The lives of the Bereans illustrate to us that the growth of a church generally is not based on tradition or emotions alone. It is based on believers who love, study, and obey the Word of God. When a church searches the Scriptures daily, it becomes grounded in truth, and error begins to diminish gradually.

As believers, listening to the Word of God in a gathering is not enough. We must ensure that we do our follow-up. The ability to nurture is given to certain members of the church who occupy positions of leadership, teaching, and training. However, the spirit of discernment is given to everyone to test the spirits and ascertain the authenticity of things. Before you swallow posts from online so-called pastors and start using them against your friends, spouses, and relatives, ascertain their consistency with the Scriptures.

SEARCHLIGHT: True nobility is not found in wealth, education, or title, but in deep reverence for the Word of God and meekness in receiving it.

PRAYERS: O God, help me to receive Your Word in the best possible way for personal spiritual nourishment, in Jesus’ mighty name.
