MOVE ON! 2

MOVE ON! 2

TEXT: “And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel?” (1 Samuel 16:1a)

Yesterday, we started a discussion on the importance of moving forward after previous hurts and pains. Today, we shall bring the topic to an end.

As we stated yesterday, moving on does not necessarily mean erasing memories completely in certain instances. It simply entails not allowing the past to control the future.

Samuel mourned Saul’s devastating downfall for a long time until God instructed him to go ahead and anoint a new king. That was a symbolic gesture indicating that it was time to move on from Saul’s era. It was time to face the next chapter. Technically, Samuel was mourning over what God had already settled. God had already rejected Saul as the king over Israel (1 Samuel 15:26). In fact, a replacement was already being nurtured by God.

One of the signs of spiritual maturity is the ability to discern and ascertain when God has already closed a chapter, and we are bound to comply with God’s decision as sons and daughters that we are. God can never be stranded. No matter how precious and wonderful a person might be, once he is not ready to move with heavenly consciousness and pattern, there is always a replacement waiting in the wings for him (1 Samuel 16:1).

KEY LESSONS

  1. Grieve over sad circumstances, but not eternally. Know when to draw the curtain so that you do not become stagnated by a life of perpetual mourning and miss out on the next phase of God for your life.
  2. Accept God’s decisions concerning closed doors. God is unquestionable, and He knows why He permitted certain misfortunes to happen (Revelation 3:7).
  3. Make yourself available for fresh assignments and tasks from God. Do not spend your time being morose and melancholic. Let God not bypass and replace you.
  4. Trust the sovereignty of God. Believe that God is always desirous of giving you the best, even if you do not see it as the best at the beginning.

PRAYER: LORD, give me the strength to move on and face my glorious future, in the mighty name of Jesus.
