SAVED TO SERVE

TEXT: For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. _Titus 2:11–12
There is a belief/perception in the hearts of most believers that giving one’s life to Christ and enjoying the grace of salvation is the final bus stop for such a believer. Most believers think that once they are saved, they only have to wait until they die or until Christ returns. However, the Bible teaches that salvation is the beginning of a new life and an entirely new purpose in Christ Jesus.
We are not saved by God just to become idle and unproductive. Throughout the Scriptures, most of those who were called by God were saved for a purpose. Noah was saved to preserve humanity from ruin. After Isaiah’s encounter with genuine salvation, he was sent by God to the unbelievers. Paul was saved in order to bear the light of the gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 9:15–16). In the same vein, every believer today has a divine assignment. One is not saved from sin and judgment just to remain the same as before. He said, “Freely you have received, freely give.”
KEY FACTS
- Salvation is entirely by God’s grace: Apostle Paul made us understand this fact in several of his epistles (Titus 2:11; Ephesians 2:8–9). Grace is God’s unmerited favour. Salvation is not earned through morality, self-righteousness, church attendance, tithes and offerings, religious activities, or any other human effort.
- Christ redeemed us to belong to Him. Jesus took our debts, punishment, and shame upon Himself and gave us a redeemed life free from condemnation. He purified us. In essence, all that we have—including our career, influence, abilities, money, and other possessions—should be used for His glory.
- We are saved to serve. Apostle Paul described believers as those who are full of good works. Thus, we are not saved by good works but for good works (Ephesians 2:10). Every believer has a special ministry the moment he or she surrenders his or her life to Christ.
CHARACTERISTICS OF BELIEVERS WHO ARE SAVED TO SERVE
- They love God above everything. Service to God is a product of love and not merely a duty (Matthew 22:37).
- They love people. A believer who is saved and who genuinely sees his salvation as a special grace from above always tries to bless others and ensure that they also enjoy the salvation package made available through Christ.
- They are available and willing. These two qualities are usually more acceptable to God than talents.
- They are committed and faithful to God (Luke 16:10).
