IS YOUR SALT STILL SALTY?

TEXT: “Salt is good: but if the salt has lost its savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” (Luke 14:34–35)

Salt is one of the most essential needs of every man. The majority of humans cannot do without salt on a daily basis. Salt preserves, spices, and enhances the taste of food. Without salt, food will definitely taste bland.

As believers, we are called to spice up the lives of those around us with value and impact. We are to resist moral and spiritual decay and rottenness, and rather strive to preserve good virtues in people’s lives. Our lives should naturally trigger a longing and an earnest desire to know God. People should not see us and be immediately dissuaded from seeking our God. Our lives should awaken spiritual hunger. This life of “salt” has nothing to do with church attendance, titular privileges, the Bible verses that you know, etc.

This teaching emphasizes the importance of maintaining a lifestyle that glorifies the Kingdom. Our salt is our value, and our value is the pattern of our lives that brings positive change to the lives of those around us. People naturally tend to remember their past experiences with others while undertaking future tasks. A person who seasoned your life with kind admonitions from the Scriptures when you were in your low estate, and things eventually turned out well, will hold a special place in your heart more than a so-called believer who became instantly judgmental and hostile when you were in your low estate.

NOTABLE FACTS

1. Salt preserves. Believers have a duty to prevent moral decay. Just one believer who is salt in his or her territory can have a preservative effect that will rub off positively on others. (Philippians 2:15)
2. Salt introduces flavour. The lack of salt makes a meal unsavoury. (Job 6:6) It makes food desirable. We have a duty to make Christianity desirable and appealing to unbelievers by displaying the various fruits of the Spirit highlighted by Apostle Paul in (Galatians 5:22). A hostile and hypocritical believer is not a true reflection of the person of Jesus Christ.
3. Salt is less connected to “work” but more connected to “walk.” Here, it does not matter whether you sing in church, teach the Bible during Search the Scriptures sessions, work in the ushering unit, or serve in the technical/media unit, etc. What matters is that your life must be seasoned with salt. Your life must not be spiritually bland and void.

MARKS OF CHRISTIANS WITH SALT IN THEIR LIVES

1. They walk in holiness and purity. They do not allow themselves to be defiled. (1 Peter 1:15–16)
2. They love others effortlessly. (John 13:35)
3. Their words are always filled with grace, power, and wisdom. (Colossians 4:6)
4. They endure the persecutions that come their way as a result of their faith in Christ Jesus. (Matthew 5:10–12)

SEARCHLIGHT:
As believers, there is a need for constant re-examination of our lives and the “salt”and clean up the background and the content therein.

PRAYER:
O LORD, help me not to lose my value, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
