EVANGELISM IN A WORLD OF HOSTILITY
DECEMBER 28, 2024
TEXT: Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. (2 Timothy 3:12)
In the process of carrying out God’s mandate to spread the gospel globally, one will inevitably face hostility, rejection, and oppression. You will certainly encounter those with differing beliefs. The Bible, in John 15:18-21 and our text, assures us persecution is certain, but we need not panic, for God has overcome the world. As believers, we must stand firm amidst challenges and hostility in evangelism.
Our world often detests truth; many reject Christ as Savior. Challenges include ridicule, insolence, torture, and dismissal (Matthew 27:29, Luke 9:51-56, Acts 8:1-4). These attitudes can be depressing for the affected witness/evangelist. However, Jesus instructed His disciples, when facing rejection, not to grieve but symbolically hand over the city to God’s judgment (shake dust off feet).
As believers, we’re enjoined to stand firm amidst intense rejection and hostility while fulfilling God’s command.
SEARCHLIGHT: In evangelism, trust God for strength and rely on the Holy Spirit for patience to navigate insolence without reaction.
PRAYER: Lord, grant me patience for evangelistic challenges, in Jesus’ name.
BIBLE READING: Exodus 29-31, John 13
