EVANGELISM THROUGH LOVE
JUNE 6, 2026
TEXT: A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. (John 13:34)
Today, many believers feel that evangelism is all about preaching, persuading people to follow Christ, and distributing gospel tracts. However, even though these are all very crucial to soul-winning, another very potent tool of evangelism is the love of Christ. Most people are drawn to Christ more through love from believers than through what believers say. Love opens stiff hearts that long hours of preaching cannot.
Love is actually the foundation of potent evangelism. Even the salvation that we earnestly preach has love at its root (John 3:16). God did not offer us salvation because we are deserving of it. He gave it to us because of the special love He has for us. People, therefore, need to see this love in practice.
Most of Jesus’ evangelical activities were triggered by love. It was love that made Him feel obliged to feed the multitude because hunger shuts out anything like words or teachings. He knew they needed food. It was out of love that He miraculously provided them with food. It was out of love that He did not condemn the woman caught in adultery despite the outcry of the Pharisees, Sadducees, and scribes to have her stoned. The woman felt the love of God rather than His wrath.
Love serves the very important purpose of making our evangelical work credible. According to Jesus, even if the world denies or questions our teachings and words, it cannot question love shown genuinely and kindly. When believers forgive others around them, help the poor and needy, show kindness, and care for the afflicted, we are genuinely demonstrating the love of God. Through all these, the seed of God’s Word can be easily planted.
This kind of love being explained must be demonstrated actively and not just through verbal pronouncements. Love in deeds and not in words.
No matter the evangelical gift in us, if love is missing, it is a great misfortune (1 Corinthians 13:1).
SEARCHLIGHT: The best way to the hearts of the people we seek to reach is through genuine love, care, and compassion.
PRAYERS: O LORD, help me to cultivate the spirit of love in spreading Your Word to people, in Jesus’ mighty name.
