POWER OF PERSONAL CONVICTION IN EVANGELISM

POWER OF PERSONAL CONVICTION IN EVANGELISM

TEXT: The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?” (John 4:28-29)

In the course of evangelism, personal testimony is a very potent means of gospel transmission. The fact that somebody’s life has experienced the touch of God is solid enough to prove the authenticity of the gospel. In most parts of Scripture, God uses transformed beings to draw people to Himself.

In our text, Jesus encountered the Samaritan woman and ministered the gospel to her. He told her prophetically everything that pertained to her life. This left the woman flabbergasted, and she proceeded to call everyone in her community to come and see a potential Messiah. (She obviously knew nothing about Jesus Christ or His earthly ministry.)

A genuine encounter with Christ produces transformation. The woman came to the well as a sinner but left as an evangelist. This personal testimony of her encounter further opened the door for the spread of the gospel. Many of the Samaritans believed because of the woman’s testimony (John 4:39).

The power of personal conviction in evangelism cannot be overemphasized. People may argue against doctrines, but it is difficult to deny the evidence of a transformed life. When a believer speaks from a genuine encounter with God, his words carry weight and credibility. The blind man whom Jesus healed boldly declared, “One thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see” (John 9:25). In the same way, believers should not hesitate to share what God has done in their lives, knowing that their testimony can become a powerful instrument through which others are drawn to Christ and brought into His saving grace.

As believers, the way we live our lives in the fold will determine whether we shall win people unto Christ or chase them far away from Him. Positive personal testimonies strengthen the faith of unbelievers. After the madman of Gadara had been healed, he went about proclaiming the name of Christ. The world needs pure evidence of true transformation before people can genuinely give their lives to Christ or believe in the supremacy of God. People want to see changes in the way you lived before and the way you live now.

In addition, your personal testimony must be relevant, clear, unexaggerated, and above all, accompanied by godly living (Titus 2:7-8).

God is looking for genuine believers who can help spread the gospel and use their lives as channels of gospel proclamation. Are you willing to enlist in the army?

SEARCHLIGHT: Your testimony can be the only bridge through which hundreds and thousands of people experience salvation.

PRAYER: O God, help me to make a positive impression on unbelievers around me with my life, in Jesus’ mighty name.
