WORDS AND CONDUCTS THAT HONOUR GOD

JUNE 22, 2026

TEXT: Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. (1 Timothy 4:12)

As believers, one of the ways we can showcase our practical faith is through words that are seasoned with grace. We can’t be believers and then just speak or utter things anyhow. Our words must clearly reveal our connection with the God of Israel.

In his epistle to Timothy, Apostle Paul stated that a true servant of God must not only teach right and sound doctrines but must also ensure that he patterns his life after those sound teachings.

Words are powerful, as they go a long way in revealing what is inside a person. However, conduct is also needed to function alongside words in positive ways.

Conduct can be referred to as our lifestyle, behaviour, norms, culture, and life choices generally. According to Apostle Paul, the best believer is one whose life reveals a perfect blend of good conduct and graceful words.

HOW CAN OUR WORDS AND CONDUCTS HONOUR GOD?

  1. Believers must speak the truth. A believer’s words should never be subjected to doubt at any point in time. Falsehood can damage people’s trust in us and contradict the godly character we so much claim to possess.
  2. Our words should be soothing and encouraging to others. Our words can bring about healing, purpose, direction for destiny, courage, etc. We should avoid using speech to discourage, bring down, or gossip about others.
  3. We should learn to control our speech, as this shows spiritual maturity. A careless tongue can create problems that a godly heart would avoid.
  4. We should portray integrity by doing what is right, especially when no one is there to observe us. Our public life should not contrast with our private life in terms of spirituality.
  5. Believers should be portrayers of genuine love and charity, not just religious activities. Many believers allow their religious lives to overshadow genuine faith and spirituality. We must endeavour to practise all the elements of love such as kindness, patience, forgiveness, etc. (1 Corinthians 13:1-5)

SEARCHLIGHT: Our lives should be a perfect reflection of righteousness and holiness. Unbelievers should not see us and mock the very name by which we are called.

PRAYERS: O LORD, help me live a balanced spiritual life in words and conduct, in Jesus’ mighty name.
